One of the most sedate activities in Victoria Falls is a sunset cruise on the upper Zambezi River. This is the section of the river above the Victoria Falls, located in between the Zambezi National Park on the Zimbabwe side, and the MosioaTunya National Park on the Zambian side of the river. The two parks are home to a variety of wildlife.
There are several cruise companies operating river cruises, but the experience will generally be similar. Your trip starts with a pickup from your accommodation to the jetty site, just a few minutes outside the town limits, upstream from the Falls. On arrival, you will need to settle your park fees and then board the boat.
Enjoy your drinks while you set off on the river, looking out for various wild animals and birds. Usually, hippos will be peering above the water, and you may catch a glimpse of crocodile. Finger snacks will be served while you are on board.
As the sun starts to sink witness the dramatic changes in colour in the sky and the surrounding scenery as the boat moves up and down the river. It is not unusual to see elephants along the banks, and sometimes giraffe or kudu. Right after the sun sets, your boat will dock back at the jetty where your transfer vehicle will be waiting to take you back to your hotel / lodge.
