One of the first adrenaline activities in Victoria Falls, white-water rafting on the Zambezi River started in the 1980’s and grew to become the best one day white water rafting in the world. Rafting in Victoria Falls is a combination of rapids on the wild Zambezi River below the waterfall itself, with up to Grade V rapids (the highest commercial rafting rapids).
Pickup is early (from 7am) and drop-off time after lunch on top of the gorge is around 2:30pm.
This activity is seasonal, depending on the water levels of the river.
The best time for rafting is during the low water season when it is the safest and most exciting. Low water rafting in Victoria Falls is between around 10th August and late December. The trip begins from Rapid #1 and ends at #19.
The High water run is when the river has a lot more water, but is safe for rafting for half the trip. Put in point is at Rapid #11 and put out is at #23. The High Water season begins whenever the low water season ends, usually end of December or beginning of January, and ends when the river is in full flood in March. High water rafting also runs when the water levels become safe again in May to July or beginning of August.
On average, during the months of April to May, the Zambezi River is in full flood and rafting is not possible because it is just unsafe. Rafting is closed during this time.
